Professional authors use proofreaders before their fiction goes to print.
I’m pleased to offer my fiction proofreading skills at a low price so that all fiction writers can afford this essential last step. As a full member of ACES (American Copy Editors Society) and a graduate of the College of Media and Publishing, I bring quality experience and precision to each project I proofread.
What I do:
I proofread for all typos and errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, consistency, subject-verb agreement, and word usage. I also keep an eye out for overused phrases and words, as well as formatting issues.
What I don’t do:
I do not change “big-picture” elements. I do not content edit or rewrite. I don’t change plot, characters, or your voice. These all remain uniquely yours. If you suspect you need more editing assistance than proofreading, you should seek an editor prior to hiring a proofreader. Proofreading is the final step before publishing or submitting to a publisher.
I accept all lengths of fiction:
Flash fiction? Awesome!
Short story? You bet.
Novella? No problem.
Five-pound novel? Bring it on!
I accept many fiction genres:
- Action
- Adventure
- Chick Lit
- Clean Romance
- Sweet Romance
- Contemporary
- Christian
- Catholic
- Dystopian
- Fantasy
- Historical
- Inspirational
- Mystery
- New Adult
- Suspense
- Thriller
- Women’s
- Children’s
- Middle-Grade
- Young Adult/Teen
Please note:
I choose to proofread relatively clean fiction only, meaning I choose not to proofread:
Steamy Romance, Erotica, LGBTQ+, Horror, Political, or morally questionable content such as graphic violence, sex, abuse, extreme bad language, etc. If in doubt, email me a sample and I’ll reply within a day or two. I reserve the right to decline any project.
How I work:
I accept electronically submitted files such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, PDFs, and plain text. I track my changes clearly so you can see each and every one of them. I’ll then return the document file to you with these changes marked.
I also accept hard copies—such as printed manuscripts, novel galleys, or proofs—through the mail. I’ll mark changes directly on the pages in red, then return them to you by mail. For this option, simply contact me for my mailing address.
I keep all your fiction strictly confidential.
Additionally, at your request, I will sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) before proofreading.
